Detach Yourself From Outcomes


As humans, we tend to attach ourselves to results in almost everything we do. We worry about the outcome. Consider how the ‘Socrates’ character in Dan Millman’s Way of the Peaceful Warrior puts it:

“Meditating an action is different from doing it. To do, there is a doer, a self-conscious ‘someone’ performing. But when you meditate an action, you’ve already released attachment to outcomes. There’s no ‘you’ left to do it. In forgetting yourself, you become what you do, so your action is free, spontaneous, without ambition, inhibition, or fear.”

Many of the happenings we attach ourselves to are mere raindrops in the sea of our life. Work on placing less weight on the outcomes of these experiences and instead just let the rain fall.
